PLAYING SAFE ON THE INTERNET IN SICILY
Adolescents, primary school pupils and teachers from the Czech Republic, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Spain shared their thoughts about safety online during internet safety workshops held on the occasion of the eTwinning camp 2007 in Città del mare.
The teenage participants brainstormed and worked on specific topics, the teachers prepared lesson-plans integrating internet safety aspects in the classroom and the youngest pupils worked on an internet safety fairy-tale .

eTWINNING CAMP 2007: A GREAT SUCCESS
On 25-29 April, the 2007 eTwinning Prize winners came together for the second annual eTwinning camp in the Sicilian resort of Città del Mare in Italy. The group consisted of 120 participants from six different European countries, including 16 teachers and 104 pupils.

EUROPEAN SCHOOLNET SIGNS MoU WITH EDUCATION.AU
European Schoolnet and education.au signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in San Francisco, USA at the end of March 2007. The main aim of the MoU is to ensure cooperation and synergy between the two organisations, specifically in the area of learning resources and international cooperation between schools.
The MoU was signed in connection with CoSN's 6th Annual International Symposium: ‘Using Games and Simulations for Engaged Learning’ which was organised on 27 March 2007 in San Francisco.

US CENTER FOR OPEN AND SUSTAINABLE LEARNING VISITS EUN
European Schoolnet received visitors in April from the Center for Open and Sustainable Learning (COSL), Utah State, USA. The COSL, headed by David Wiley, provides tools and support for teachers in using this content, and is part of an international movement to promote the use of open learning content in education throughout the world.
The discussion focused around common work and ideas that both COSL and EUN have on the sharing the content and on the tools' development.

eTWINNING WORK GROUP MEETINGS IN BRUSSELS
All three work groups of the eTwinning action met on 14-16 May 2006 in Brussels to build upon their previous work group discussions as well as to evaluate their activities over the last three years as eTwinning soon reaches the end of its first phase 2005-2007.

The European Professional Development Workshops for eTwinning continue their successful series with three being held within the last month, in Slovenia, Germany and Slovakia with a combined teacher involvement of over 220 teachers from 25 countries.

XPLORA HANDS OUT THE MILLIKAN WEB EXPERIMENT TO FINNISH SCHOOL
After more than a year of development work, Xplora, the European Gateway for Science Education has now handed over to Helsingin Yhteislyseo, a private high school in Helsinki, Finland, the web version of the Millikan oil drop experiment. This classical Nobel prize winning experiment can be used to measure the charge of an electron.

INSIGHT REPORT ON FOLKSONOMIES, SOCIAL BOOKMARKING AND TAGGING
Insight, EUN’s observatory for new technologies and education, recently published a Special Report on folksonomies, social bookmarking and tagging. The report gives an introduction to social, collaborative tagging practices and sheds lights to commonly heard terms such as tags, tag cloud and folksonomies.

LEARNING RESOURCE EXCHANGE PRESENTED TO PEERS IN HUNGARY
European Schoolnet gave a presentation in the Commission's Peer Learning Activity (PLA) in Budapest on 25-27 April 2007. The PLA group, set up in the framework of the European Commission’s ICT cluster, gained in-depth knowledge about Hungarian school system and its emerging issues with the ICT.

SPRING DAY FOR EUROPE CHATS AT EUN
Two more chats between EU decision-makers and European schools took place in the EUN Office in May 2007. The chats are part of the Spring Day for Europe 2007 campaign and featured on 11 May 2007 Margot Wallström, EU Commissioner for Institutional relations and communication strategy and on 15 may MEP Graham Watson leader of the European Liberals and Democrats group.

EUN TO CO-ORGANISE WORKSHOPS IN EC-TEL 07
European Schoolnet is co-organising two workshops in the area of digital content discovery. The workshops will take place within the 2nd European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL07) in Greece on 17-20 September 2007.
Both workshops focus on the discovery of digital learning resources.

eTWINNING PRESENTED IN RHODES
European Schoolnet was invited on 10-12 May 2007 to the “Twinning for tomorrow’s world” conference in Rhodes, Greece to present the activities of the EU’s eTwinning action. In Rhodes, the EUN representative gave an overview of how schools can participate in eTwinning in a specific session on youth and twinning: an initiation to public life. eTwinning is the main action of the EU’s eLearning programme.
