    ROUND TABLE SURVEY
    In preparation of the Round Table, EUN has launched a pan European survey for schools with the aim of giving a snapshot of the perspective of schools in Europe.

    What are the schools priorities in the years to come, where should the money be spent or does European collaboration projects bring added value to teaching and learning are some of the questions asked.

    The survey is expected to reach around 30,000 schools in Europe. It is available in English, French and German.

    “IMAGINING THE FUTURE OF SCHOOLING”
    The EUN Round Table on the future of schooling takes place in Bruges on 7-8 December. For two days discussions take place between invited stakeholders in education: Ministry of Education, European Commission, industry representatives and a number of experts.
    A chat room will be made available where participants will be able to post comments about the meeting and a blog has been created, it will be an informal place where to learn more about speakers, read news and subscribe to conference podcasts.

    Life ICT Cluster

    LIFE FINAL SESSION AND ROADMAP TO E-LEARNING INTEROPERABILITY
    The LIFE-project, an e-learning project focusing on interoperability, will hold its final session on 7 December 2006. The session takes place in conjunction with the EUN Round Table on ‘imagining the future of schooling’ on 7-8 December in Bruges.

    As one of the outcomes of the LIFE project a booklet will specially be produced for the event titled ‘A roadmap for interoperability in Europe’.

    PEER LEARNING ACTIVITY IN LUXEMBOURG
    European Schoolnet assisted the second peer learning activity (PLA) in Luxembourg on 27-29 September 2006. EUN was appointed last year as the adviser to the ICT cluster of the European Commission.

    Daniel Weiler from the Luxembourg Ministry of Education and General Portal Manager of mySchool!, organised the three days meeting covering the topic of building learning networks and collaborative learning environments to boost student’s success.

    "ENERGY IS OUR FUTURE" BRINGS ENERGY EFFICIENCY INTO THE CLASSROOM
    On 13 November 2006, in partnership with PlasticsEurope, the association of plastics manufacturers, European Schoolnet launched the "Energy is our Future" website.

    The website aims to raise awareness among students throughout Europe between 11 and 18 years about the importance of energy efficiency. Through online activities and a competition, students will learn interactively to work on issues linked to energy consumption and energy savings.

    EUN ORGANISES SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT YOUTH PRIZE COMPETITION
    From 12-14 November 2006, European Schoolnet and the European Commission welcomed in Brussels the 50 winners and runners-up of the Development Youth Prize 2006, an art competition for EU schools focusing this year on Africa.

    The pupils were accompanied by their 25 teachers from all around Europe. As a European Commission initiative for students between the ages of 16 and 18, the Development Youth Prize 2006 was organised by European Schoolnet.

    eTwinning

    ETWINNING REACHES 20,000TH REGISTERED SCHOOLS MILESTONE
    Just over two years after its initial launch as the main action of the European Commission’s eLearning Programme, eTwinning has gone from strength to strength now involving over 20,000 registered schools across Europe.

    On 14 November 2006, St. Vincent’s RC Primary School from London, United Kingdom, became the 20,000th school registered to eTwinning. The Action began in September 2004 to promote collaborative ICT projects in education across Europe.

    PEDAGOGICAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN COPENHAGEN AND MALMO
    On 19 November 2006, the third professional development workshop of the 2006/07 series took place in Copenhagen Denmark and Malmo Sweden.

    The workshop was jointly organised by the Swedish and Danish Nation Support Services (NSS) it began in the Technical University of Copenhagen on day one and on day two participants transfered to Malmo. Discussions focused on collaboration between schools and good practice projects running in eTwinning.

    ESLN EUN

    ESLN FINAL CONFERENCE ORGANISED IN ROME
    The final conference for the European School Leadership Network (ESLN) project took place in connection with the bi-annual conference of the European School Heads Association (ESHA) held in the Sheraton Roma Hotel in Rome on 3-5 November 2006. Together the ESHA/ESLN conference brought together 520 participants from 29 countries and 5 continents.

    NEW FACES AT EUN: CHRISTINE HUYBRECHTS
    Christine joined the EUN Office in November. She will be working as Financial Manager. Her responsibilities will be to monitor all the financial aspects of the Office: management of the day-to-day financial tasks, monitoring of the cash flow situation, financial reporting, HR management and other matters.
