    ROUND TABLE: ‘IMAGINING THE FUTURE OF SCHOOLING’
    European Schoolnet is organising on 7-8 December in Bruges, Belgium, an expert meeting bringing together policy makers, representative from EU institutions and the industry for a two day panel discussion on the future of schooling in Europe.

    This event will be the occasion to take stock of the impact of new technologies in schools and to identify future directions and challenges for the education world.

    Also at the meeting the eLearning Awards 2006 will be awarded. The top award will be presented by Young Digital Planet .

    MELT KICK OFF MEETING IN BRUSSELS
    For two days about 40 people gathered in Brussels for the kick-off meeting of the MELT-project. MELT is project of the eContentplus programme bringing together 19 partners from 14 countries, including 16 content providers, both public and commercial ones.

    PIC Safer Internet Day 2007

    E-ASSESSMENT ON THE AGENDA AT OCTOBER PIC MEETING
    The theme of the October PIC meeting was e-assessment and the use of e-portfolios. The third Policy Innovation Committee meeting of the year took place in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands on 12-13 October 2006.

    Hosted by Kennisnet ict op School foundation, the meeting was enriched with presentations from external experts and reflections on the future of PIC and possible themes for 2007.

    INSAFE AND ETWINNING JOIN HAND FOR SAFER INTERNET DAY 2007 COMPETITION
    The fourth edition of Safer Internet Day (SID) will be celebrated on 6 February 2007. In this context schools from all around the world are invited to enter a SID 2007 Competition, work in pairs and win valuable prizes for their schools.

    Starting as an initiative in 2004, SID has become a major annual event crowning the awareness activities of Insafe, the European safer internet network.

    BACK TO SCHOOL WITH eTWINNING WEEKS
    In order to encourage schools and teachers to get involved in eTwinning at the beginning of the new school year, special “eTwinning Weeks” were organised between 25 September and 15 October 2006.

    At both European and national level, focused events, activities and competitions took place and the results were extremely positive with over 4,000 visits to the website every day, 1,617 new schools registered and 242 new partnership projects started.

    eTWINNING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
    The eTwinning year 2006/07 opened with two Professional Development workshops held in the past month, one in Nottingham on 28-30 September 2006 and in Lisbon on the 19–21 October 2006.

    eTWINNING WORK GROUPS MEETINGS IN BRUSSELS
    Two Work Group meetings for eTwinning took place in Brussels on 25 (WG1) and 26 (WG3) October 2006. Work Group 1 focuses on portal issues. It brought together 29 representatives from the National Support Services (NSS). Workgroup 3 (communication) was attended by 26 NSS.

    Insight Newsletter MINOR

    INSIGHT NEWSLETTER ISSUE #2
    Insight – EUN Observatory for New Technologies and Education, launched the second issue of the Insight Newsletter in October. The newsletter aims to highlight the latest articles, reports and documents published on the Insight portal.

    This issue leads with a story on the state of play in educational ICT in Greece and includes other articles on Policy, Interoperability, School Innovation as well as the latest thematic dossiers on Insight about ‘The Next Curve: New priorities in Educations’.

    EUN PRESENTS MINOR AT EMAPPS.COM WORKSHOP IN LJUBLJANA
    In October, EUN released the first version of MINOR: An open-source repository of learning resources and metadata. MINOR will be presented for the first time to the eMapps teachers on 7 November 2006 during a workshop organised in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

    MINOR was developed by EUN in the framework of the eMapps.com project (http://eMapps.com/). MINOR is a repository to store, manage, and exchange the multimedia assets produced by teachers during the project .
