SIFA-EUN SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT
The School Interoperability Framework Association (SIFA) and European Schoolnet have signed a cooperation agreement.
The agreement makes European Schoolnet SIF representative in Europe, while BECTA is SIF representative for the UK.
With this agreement, SIFA and EUN will work together in the development and integration of interoperability applications and content. European Schoolnet will organise one or two pilots based on SIF standard.

PIC BARCELONA: UNRAVELLING INNOVATION IN EDUCATION
EUN’s Policy Innovation Committee met in Barcelona on 23-24 February 2006. The theme of this first meeting of 2006 was innovation in education.
The workshop included presentations by national experts and working group sessions to define what innovation is and how innovative practices can be shared at the school level.

SPRING DAY CHATS WITH COMMISSIONERS
Commissioners Jan Figel’, responsible for Education, Culture and Multilingualism visited the EUN Office on 2 March 2006 to chat with Spring Day schools. He was followed by Danuta Hübner, responsible for Regional Policy on 21 March.
The chats are a regular feature in the Spring Day campaign. This year eight further chats are scheduled with key EU figures.

AGILENT SUPPORTS XPLORA FOR WEB EXPERIMENTS
Agilent Technologies Foundation has provided a grant of €42,000 to Xplora to carry out a new web experiment: the Millikan oil drop experiment.
Xplora, the European Science Education Gateway which is supported by the PENCIL project and funded by the European Commission's Directorate General for Research as part of Science and Society, has already included several web experiments in its innovative offers for science teachers.

ETWINNING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
Professional Development workshops were held in Scotland on 23-25 February 2006 and in Germany on 9-11 March 2006. In total, 150 teachers attended the two workshops. The workshop in Scotland focused on presenting eTwinning to teachers of foreign languages, the workshop in Germany focused on teachers from various disciplines.

ETWINNING WORKING GROUPS IN BRUSSELS
As the number of schools registered on the eTwinning portal reached 13,000 in March, two of the CSS-NSS Working Group met in Brussels on 16-17 March 2006.
The meetings were on Working Group 1 (Portal) on day one and Working group 3 (Communication) on day two.

ESLN THIRD CONFERENCE IN ROME
The third working conference of the European School Leadership (ESLN) network, took place on 16-18 March 2006 in Fiuggi, Rome.
The event marked the start of Module 3 of the online professional development programme for school leaders.
Fifty five school leaders from 15 European Countries attended the successful workshop on the Leadership of Change in an Emerging Europe.

LIFE PROJECT ORGANISES PLUGFEST IN PARIS
The second plugfest organised by the LIFE project will take place on 13-14 June 2006 in Paris. The objective of this event is to present the state of the art of eLearning technologies, demonstrate and explore interoperability between eLearning solutions and other information systems.

EUN INVITED TO CONTRACT NEGOTIATION FOR MELT
EUN’s MELT proposal which was submitted late last year to the first call of the new eContentplus programme scored high in the evaluation and EUN has now been formally invited to begin contract negotiations with the Commission with a view to starting the project later in 2006.

APPLE’S DONATION HELPS EUN IN VARIOUS PROJECTS
Apple UK recently made a substantial donation of computer equipment to the EUN Office in Brussels and to EUN’s technical platform in Austria.
These included a Power Mac Quad G5 and its 23” flat panel, an Xserve G5 server and 14 iBook laptops made available to EUN for internal use and conferences and workshops.

KEY FIGURES OF EUROPEAN SCHOOLNET BUDGET 2006
European Schoolnet’s budget for 2006 was presented to EUN’s Board of Directors on 15 February 2006. In the budget document presented to the Board, the EUN Office put together a series of graphs which describe adequately European Schoolnet’s revenues and costs.

The EUN Partnership Board of Directors met on 16 March 2006. Discussions focused on the status of projects and contracts with the EC, on the cash flow and issues related to the EUN Office.

A new member of the EUN Office is Agathe Djelalian who joined the EUN in January 2006 as a Web Editor for the Spring Day in Europe 2006 portal. Her duties include providing news and information for the portals as well as writing and organising contents.
