    EUN BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT THE EUN OFFICE
    Members of EUN Board of Directors met on 15 February 2006 in Brussels to discuss the EUN budget for 2006 and financial matters related to last financial year. The EUN Board of Directors is made up of senior representatives from Ministries and national agencies that are part of the EUN consortium.

    The EUN Office also presented the panel with information about the status of contracts with the European Commission as well as new projects and recently signed contracts. The group decided on upcoming EUN Steering Committee and Presidium meetings as well as a General Assembly to take place on 6 December 2006.

    SAFER INTERNET DAY 2006 GOES GLOBAL WITH EUN
    For the second year, the Insafe network coordinated by European Schoolnet organised a European Safer Internet Day.

    This year it took place on 7 February 2006, one of the highlights of the event was a global ‘Blogathon’ on internet safety under the patronage of Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media. Commissioner Reding participated by posting the first entry to the internet safety Blogathon.

    COUNTRY REPORTS ON INSIGHT PORTAL
    Insight’s Country Reports are now available on the Insight portal. The series of reports account for a major section of the Insight website.

    For policy makers and other education professionals they are a unique tool to identify eLearning and education trends in their neighbouring countries.

    A search interface allows cross-reference searches, which allows users to request specific issues and compare them with other countries. Access to the country report’s detailed version is restricted to myInsight members.

    ETWINNING WORKGROUP 2 IN BRUSSELS
    Workgroup 2, dealing with quality issues and professional development, met on 10 February 2006 in the Belgian French Ministry of Education in Brussels. 26 National Support Services were represented. Anne Gilleran, Pedagogical Manager for eTwinning with the Central Support Service, together with Brigitte Parry and Santi Scimeca moderated the meeting.

    AJAX BRINGS NEW FUNCTIONALITIES TO EUN PORTALS
    Several EUN portals now use a state of the art web application called AJAX. For European Schoolnet’s development team, AJAX means more flexibility as it allows, among other things, the display of dynamic content on static HTML pages.

    Projects

    LLE LEARNING OBJECTS NOW ONLINE
    The first set of learning objects (LOs) on European citizenship were made available at the end of January on the myEUROPE.eun.org portal. The LOs were submitted by 40 teachers from all EU and Candidate countries, part of the “Linking and Learning Europe” (LLE) teacher group.

    The objects are currently tested with a number of schools from the myEUROPE Network as part of a piloting phase.

    XPLORA DVD HELPS SCIENCE EDUCATION
    Xplora – EUN’s portal for Science education – has started the dissemination of an Xplora's Knoppix DVD for science education. More than 400 copies of the DVD have already been preordered on the Xplora portal.

    The DVD contains educational material from the internet as well as from Xplora's own resources and partners.It can also be used as a standalone operating system with a wealth of software useful for science teachers..

    SEMINAR ON LEARNING RESOURCE EXCHANGE IN BRUSSELS
    European Schoolnet is organising on 23 March 2006 in Brussels a major seminar on digital learning content and its vision for a new pan-European Learning Resource Exchange.

    Organised within the framework of the CALIBRATE project, the event aims to identify how Ministries of Education are working with EUN to promote the interoperability and exchange of digital learning resources.

    XPLORA ORGANISES ONLINE EVENT WITH DEUTSCHES MUSEUM
    Xplora, EUN’s portal for science education, has teamed up with Deutsches Museum, one of the world's largest museums of science and technology, to organise an online event on Dynamic Geometry.

    The event will take place at 10.30 am on 14 March 2006 at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. The event will be broadcast on xplora.org via video streaming. Participants will be able to follow it online and ask questions.
