EmpowerED, funded by the European Union (2023-2025) leveraged existing but loosely coordinated EdTech ecosystem groups to establish a sustainable EdTech Community of Practice at European level. The project produced numerous outputs for the support of thriving EdTech systems.

EmpowerED (2023–2025) was a European Union-funded initiative designed to support closer collaboration in the European digital education sector. The project connected European EdTech initiatives; policymakers; researchers; educators; and various other EdTech ecosystem actors, by creating a space for exchange, training and capacity-building opportunities that address priority topics on emerging technologies.

Final outcomes

  • EdTech policy map: A strategic framework and "living document", based on , that outlines the conditions needed for innovation, focusing on building stakeholder trust, strengthening digital skills, and securing sustainable funding across the EdTech ecosystem.
  • European EdTech map: Highlighting over 1,500 EdTech organisations, this tool helps users explore innovative products and find local collaborators.
  • Two MOOCS for educators wishing to become pedagogical mentors in the EdTech design process, and for stakeholders who need to make EdTech procurement decisions at school, regional or national level. The Project also offered six mini-MOOCs on EdTech entrepreneur key competences.

Continued professional development outputs

The project produced courses and guidelines to keep the momentum of EdTech going in schools, for teachers, school leaders, entrepreneurs, startups, and researchers. These are all compiled on the EmpowerED continuing professional development page.

EmpowerED launched several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to empower individuals with the specific skills needed to thrive in the digital education space.

Expert guidelines and research

The project produced six guidelines that provide practical tools and guidance to address pertinent needs EdTech ecosystem stakeholders. The guidelines support:

Through these resources, EmpowerED ensures that the momentum gained over the last two years continues to support thriving EdTech systems for better learning.
