Tools against digital gender-based violence with menABLE
menABLE (Empower Manpower against gender-based violence online) was a two-year project (2023-2025) co-funded by the European Commission. menABLE addressed the issue of gender-based violence through the lens of prevention targeting specifically boys and young men. Educational tools were developed and awareness activities were conducted in line with the overall project commitment to raise awareness, change social norms and behaviours and end tolerance of all forms of gender-based violence. More specifically, the project engaged with early teenagers (13-15 years) and late teenagers (16-18 years) through formal and non-formal educational settings. Other parties included in the project were educational professionals and adults, including heads of schools, teachers/educators, caregivers, and other professionals working with young people – for example in youth clubs and Safer Internet Centres.
Key resources:
- The menABLE Toolbox "Ctrl+Alt+GBV" addresses and facilitates discussions on gender and gender identity, encourages reflection and provides concrete guidelines for action.
- The menABLE Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) explores issues and experiences related to GBV with young people, using the menABLE Toolbox "Ctrl+Alt+GBV".
Apart from the project resources mentioned above, other project outcomes are:
- Pan-European and national training and outreach activities in Belgium, Denmark and Greece.
- Four quarterly awareness-raising campaigns discussing specific issues related to gender-based violence online.
