PERMA-Digital: A whole school approach to digital well-being

Coordinated by EUN, the PERMA-Digital project will be based on a research-driven pioneering framework to be designed, pairing principles of Positive Education, Positive Psychology, Digital education, and Digital and Life Competencies. Our proposed framework will merge the PERMA model and digital education (henceforth called PERMA-Digital), targeting the purposeful integration of technologies in teaching, learning, and assessment for student well-being and the development of both teachers' and students' skills to benefit from digital technology use, while handling the associated risks and challenges.
EUN with the support from all partners will produce a policy recommendations and advocacy toolkit outlining the policy actions required for integration and mainstreaming of PERMA-Digital and project results into national contexts and transferability across Europe. This will cover the following aspects:
-
- school levels (i.e., whole-school approach application)
- teacher education – initial teacher education and preparation on PERMA- Digital and the adoption/scalability of training modules – led by UCD
- teacher training – continuous professional development on PERMA-Digital and the adoption/ scalability of training modules.
A virtual roundtable discussion will be organised with around 20 key stakeholders from partner countries to reflect and discuss on the recommendations produced.
Expected outcomes
The proposed PERMA-Digital framework will focus on how to create positive learning experiences in digital learning environments that enhance well-being while contributing to addressing risks and hazards.
It is envisaged that the project will result in increased competencies and awareness, informed policy decision-making and strategic practice for a systemic whole-school approach to well-being in digital education.
