The 2023 edition of the School Innovation Forum was held on June 6-7 in Brussels under the theme "Innovating in times of transformation". The annual event gathered over 130 education stakeholders for two days of discussions on the present challenges and future opportunities of K12 education in Europe, particularly with respect to technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Attendees had the chance to hear observations and viewpoints from European and national policymakers, EdTech industry partners, education researchers and members of the academia.

European Schoolnet is presenting the first publication of its Special Interest Group on "Small and Rural Schools" titled "Rural Schools Under Focus". This publication features 11 monographies, covering 11 countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland, Serbia, Sweden, Spain) in 11 languages and a comparative analysis of the findings of these monographies.

Given the overwhelming popularity of video gaming among young people, it is not surprising the rise of esports as a booming industry, with an estimated audience of 532.1 million worldwide. But esports is also a relatively new approach to teaching that utilises competitive video gaming as a tool for learning, promising to promote the development of 21st-century skills, such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning.

This spring the Ministry of education of Ireland launched its very first framework for primary education. The Framework sets out the vision, principles and components of a redeveloped Primary School Curriculum to benefit children, teachers, parents and the wider community.
Professional Development
European Schoolnet is looking for 12 secondary school teachers to form the Teach Europe Taskforce that will create pedagogical materials to teach about the European Union (EU) across the curriculum. As part of the Taskforce, teachers will be required to work together, attend training courses and events, and contribute to the development of a series of Learning Scenarios.

In July 2020 the Spanish Government launched the Digital Spain 2026 agenda as a roadmap for the country's digitalization process. This agenda was conceived as one of the pillars of Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, after the pandemic crisis, as well as a vector of modernisation and prosperity in the medium term, acting on the triple dimension of: (i) infrastructure and technology, (ii) economy, and (iii) people.
