Pilot 1 redevelops an existing WordsWorthLearning (WWL) digital programme into an app containing Augmented Reality (AR) - to facilitate teaching English language reading and spelling skills to struggling students. The aim is to utilise AR based teaching and learning technologies to make both teaching and learning of the English language more accessible and successful for those teachers and students engaged in the process.
Pilot 2 focuses on the innovative and exciting way of learning geometry and geography through visualisation and interaction of Augmented Reality applications. By understanding and engaging with abstract objects, pupils have the opportunity to develop both their spatial and visual cognition while learning through critical thinking. Pilot 2 is based on the CleverBooks app, which provides STEM-oriented global curriculum-based teaching and learning solutions for primary education.
Pilot 3 acts upon the experience of AR in teaching and practicing social behaviour skills via teaching expected behaviour. The researchers are interested to investigate how AR facilitates the acquisition of self-management and self-regulation skills and furthermore whether the school climate and social dynamics within classrooms improve within schools implementing the Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (PBIS) approach. The Pilot testing phase will begin in the school year 2021/2022.
European Schoolnet is responsible for recruitment, selection and coordination of teachers from across Europe who participate in ARETE piloting activities. Recruitment for primary school teachers to start 2 Pilots involving the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) in the classroom is currently ongoing. Their aim will be to coordinate the teachers participating in the Pilots activities and to contribute in the pilots themselves. Pilot 1 implements AR to facilitate teaching English literacy skills http://bit.ly/ARETE-pilot-1. Pilot 2 will use AR as an efficient Tool for STEM Information Retention http://bit.ly/ARETE-pilot-2
