Share your experience: Survey on small and rural schools (open until end of March)

European Schoolnet and the Italian National Documentation and Research Institute (INDIRE) are collecting schools' and teachers' experiences to support a shared European vision for inclusive, high-quality education in small and rural schools.

Small and rural schools are essential to European education systems. They serve large parts of the territory, help keep communities sustainable, and ensure that quality learning opportunities are available regardless of where learners live. Strengthening support for these schools is therefore not only a matter of equity, but also a long-term investment in social cohesion and regional development.

The Small and Rural Schools survey is a key step in working together to create a shared vision for inclusive, high-quality education for small and rural schools across Europe.

Your contribution matters because it helps ensure this work reflects real needs and day-to-day realities rather than assumptions. The findings will be analysed by INDIRE and European Schoolnet and will feed into joint work at European level. The aim is to highlight strengths and challenges, inform a European model for small and rural schools, and support more targeted policies, tools, and resources.

The survey builds on European Schoolnet's ongoing work in this area - through its Small and Rural Schools Interest Group - including publications such as Playing their part: Small and rural schools and Rural schools under focus, as well as the Smart schooling and networking MOOC available on the European Schoolnet Academy website.

The survey is open until the end of March: Fill it out here
