World Teachers' Day: Teaching is not an isolated profession

Every year on 5 October, World Teachers' Day celebrates the rights and contributions of teachers. In 2025, collaboration in the teaching profession will be in the spotlight.

World teachers' Day marks the adoption of the UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers. This year's theme is "recasting teaching as a collaborative profession", which highlights the importance of working together to ensure successful teaching and learning.

European Schoolnet is committed to connecting teachers with teachers trainers, schools, Ministries of education and other key players in Europe to shape  the future of education in Europe. The organisation  provides opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and access to resources. This is largely achieved through initiatives such as the Future Classroom Lab (FCL), the European Schoolnet Academy (EUNA), partnerships with ministries of education and schools, Scientix and a wide range of projects.

European Schoolnet actively promotes continuous school and teacher development in its mission of transforming education in Europe. As education evolves, teachers are under constant pressure to adapt. However, alongside full curricula and heavy administrative demands, this challenge cannot rest on educators' shoulders alone. Ministries, policymakers, parents and other education stakeholders also play their part in shaping modern, relevant and student-centred education

Teacher development initiatives

The Future Classroom Lab (FCL) initiative challenges educators to rethink pedagogy, technology and classroom design. Policymakers, industry partners, teachers and other education stakeholders regularly meet for training workshops and seminars to explore new opportunities for learning. The upcoming courses will be on AI & data literacy and interactive technologies for the classroom

The European Schoolnet Academy provides professional development through its extensive range of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The EUNA blog complements the courses, offering insights on topics such as teachers' digital well-being in the classroom and testimonies of teachers who have benefitted from the Academy. Since its launch in 2014, EUN Academy courses have engaged 104,595 learners and awarded 48,480 certificates.

  • Scientix Europe's leading science education community is an initiative of European Schoolnet where STEM teachers exchange, learn and collaborate to advance STEM education worldwide.

Projects with teachers in focus

European Schoolnet also support numerous EU funded projects that facilitate the collaboration of teachers with other education stakeholders and equip them with new competences and resources

  • The European School Education Platform – a meeting point for the school education community. The platform hosts eTwinning, the community for schools in Europe, providing a safe space for schools and teachers to collaborate online. Teachers will discover a rich collection of resources, information and courses alongside a community of likeminded and passionate educators around Europe.
  • ContinueUp – designed to make continuous training more accessible to teachers throughout their careers. From initial teacher education onwards, teachers are encouraged to become lifelong digital learners
  • 21 Century European Teachers – explores how European teachers can adapt their teaching to emerging subject areas such as sustainable learning, playful learning, entrepreneurship and technological empowerment.

These initiatives, and many others, reflect EUN's commitment to supporting teachers and educators in their essential role of educating the next generation. By connecting educators with networks and resources, we facilitate the shared load of teaching; ensuring that no teacher needs to face the challenges of education alone.
