The new BIK Knowledge Hub

European Schoolnet invites you to discover the recently launched BIK Knowledge hub, as part the new and improved Better Internet for Kids platform, delivered on behalf of the European Commission under the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) initiative.

The development of the new BIK Knowledge hub is a strategic initiative to pool all relevant information, research, and evidence, as well as policy and practice insights informing the policies and practices creating a safer and more inclusive digital space for children and young people.

The new BIK Knowledge hub evidences the impact of digital transformation on the lives of children and young people in the EU, Iceland, and Norway (EU 27+2). Its heart and soul is a BIK Policy monitor, a key feature that provides a comprehensive review of the state of implementation of the BIK+ strategy across the EU 27+2. It presents annually updated data in the form of the annual BIK Policy monitor report, and includes an interactive Policy map and Policy index, supplemented by individual country profiles.

The Knowledge hub is complemented by two directories:

1. the Rules and guidelines directory provides an overview of relevant policies, strategies, and governmental initiatives for implementing the BIK+ strategy,

2. the Research and reports directory collates timely and relevant research and evidence informing the implementation of the BIK+ strategy.

Alongside these, you'll also find a growing resource of Knowledge hub insights, combining information, evidence, and policy insights across the knowledge hub in digestible and topical articles.

The data, policy insights, and resources collated in the new Knowledge hub are updated annually. This annual updating cycle is enabled by a robust network of European policy and e-safety experts that contribute to this infrastructure directly and indirectly across the Better Internet for Kids initiative.

The new BIK Knowledge hub is only one of the key elements of the new and improved Better Internet for Kids platform launched in October 2024 and now sitting within the European Commission's Europa domain – with a new URL of better-internet-for-kids.europa.eu – the new platform is the online home of the BIK initiative, a European Union-funded programme that strives to create a better and safer internet for Europe's children and youth.

Underpinned by the aims and outputs of the European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+), the platform provides information, guidance and resources on better internet issues from the joint Insafe-INHOPE network of Safer Internet Centres in Europe and other key stakeholders for ALL those who support or educate children and young people in their online lives.

Alongside other content and services, the entire platform is designed to be more user-friendly and accessible, with much-improved search functions across the site. We've also introduced detailed FAQs (frequently asked questions) to support you in your journey of discovery and have new features planned in the coming months.
