European Schoolnet (EUN) is currently looking for a Technical Manager to join our Technical team (composed of 7 people), take the technical leadership on the development of educational portals and communities, and define and implement a technical vision that supports EUN’s development plans.
While project managers have the overall responsibility of different EUN educational projects, the Technical Manager works in close collaboration with them and is in charge of the technical development part of these projects.
The Technical Manager reports to the Executive Director.
Functions
- Ensure the successful implementation and delivery of the various projects by the technical team.
- Provide planning and budget for projects, based on validated scoping and requirements
- Translate the project requirements into specific objectives for the technical team members allocated to the project.
- Take part in defining and implementing the technical solution
- Follow up planning and proper delivery
- Inform the project manager of the technical development progress, any problems encountered and potential risks.
- Provide reports, in close collaboration with the management
- Act as a technical reference for the development team
- Improve the way of working of the team by defining and enforcing methodologies (development, project management…)
- Develop a global vision of the data model used across projects
- Ensure a consistency of the technological choices
Profile and skills
Technical skills:
- Professional experience in a project management (minimum 3 years).
- Knowledge and experience of Project Management methodologies, e.g. PMI and software
- Proven experience of developing applications for the Web (minimum 5 years); experience in collaborative platforms and portal technologies is considered as an asset
- Strong understanding of object-orientation (OO programming concepts, UML, design patterns)
- Good methodology skills (SVN, ANT, Unit testing)
- Software development methodology skills, e.g. Agile/Scrum
- Excellent knowledge of Java (J2EE, Web Technologies, Portlets); knowledge of Liferay or similar portal container is an asset
- Excellent knowledge of database technologies (MySQL,Oracle)
- Good knowledge of XML and Web Services technologies
- Good knowledge of hardware infrastructures, software and licensing models
