Xperimania: from molecules to materials
26/04/2013
Concentrating on chemistry and physics, Xperimania aims to boost young people's interest in science. Xperimania helps students in secondary school and their teachers to understand the wide range of chemistry applications in our day-to-day life.
Since its start in 2007, the project developed a set of hands-on experiments related to materials and their properties, organised several school competitions, a chemistry workshop tour across Europe, and three series of online chats with industry experts.
Xperimania I (2007-2008): Materials
- Student competition on the history of scientific discoveries in chemistry
- Online chats with industry experts
- Set of hands-on experiment on petrochemistry and materials
Xperimania II (2008-2009): Properties
- A set of hands-on experiments “Check out the property” on chemical properties of materials
- Student competition based on the hands-on experiments
- Online chats with industry experts
Xperimania III (2009-2010): Ambassadors
- The Xperimania Science Ambassadors’ tour with the science workshop: "I never thought chemistry could be so much fun,"
Xperimania VI (2010-2011): Equality
- Student competition on the role of women in chemistry
Xperimania V (2012-2013): TALK2US
- Online chats with industry experts
- Student competition on careers in science and engineering
Xperimania is coordinated by European Schoolnet on behalf of European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). Other partners include European Petrochemical Association (EPCA,) the Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe (Appe), and the International Year of Chemistry 2011.
