inGenious: the European Coordinating Body in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths education

01/02/2011

inGenious is the European Coordinating Body in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education. It is a joint initiative launched by European Schoolnet and the European Roundtable of Industrialists (ERT) aiming to reinforce young European's interest in science education and careers and thus address anticipated future skills gaps within the European Union.

Through a partnership with the European Round Table of Industrialists, the objective of inGenious (ingenious-science.eu) is to strengthen the link between science education and careers in STEM fields. With a grant from the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme, and the support of major international industry partners, inGenious is one of the largest science education projects in Europe.

All the actions of inGenious aim to improve the image of STEM and STEM careers among young people and encourage them to think about the wide range of opportunities that working in science provides.

Basic facts:

  • Started in February 2011
  • Around 60 online and onsite events
  • 25 partners and 14 associate partners from 19 countries
  • Over 1,000 pilot schools from all over Europe

"It is a breakthrough that main international industry collaborates directly and effectively together with ministries and other organisations in order to leverage science and technology to the youngsters in Europe." Andre van Asperen, Shell
